About this site
Pattaya's nightlife district is one of the most written-about and worst-written-about places in Thai travel — mythologised by some, sensationalised by others, explained by almost nobody. This site is the explanation: adult, honest, non-explicit, and Pattaya-specific.
What we are
- Informational only: we describe how the district works, what the law says, how to behave and where the risks are. We promote no venues, arrange nothing, and profit from nothing described here;
- Non-explicit by policy: the subject is adult; the treatment is documentary;
- Harm-reduction in spirit: the health, safety and etiquette pages, alongside the newer drink safety and drugs pages, are the site's actual point.
Who this is, and isn't, for
This site is written for adults who are going to encounter this scene one way or another — as a curious first-time visitor, a long-stay resident, a partner or companion of someone connected to it, or simply someone trying to understand a famous and confusing part of Thai travel writing — and would rather do that with accurate context than with forum myth or tabloid sensationalism. It is not written to encourage anyone toward the scene who wouldn't otherwise go, and it is not a substitute for the legal or medical advice of an actual professional where either is genuinely needed.
Where we stand
The scene exists inside real lives — overwhelmingly, economic migrants working to support families. See the ecosystem and how it came to exist at all. Visitors who understand that move through the district as decent guests; visitors who don't are the ones this site was written to fix. Exploitation, coercion and anything involving minors are crimes we take seriously and address directly on the recognising coercion page — full stop.
Editorial standards
- We describe patterns, economics, law and etiquette — never specific venues, prices, contacts or arrangements, and we never will;
- We write legal context as general information, not legal advice, and we say so on the pages where it matters. See legality and drugs & the law;
- We update pages as our understanding improves or facts change, and we'd rather under-claim than overstate anything about a legal or safety situation that shifts with policy;
- We don't transcribe helpline or hotline numbers — they change, and a stale number is worse than none. We point to directories and official sources instead;
- Respectful language toward workers in this industry is not a style choice here — it's the baseline the whole site is written to, covered directly on the respect & consent page.
Corrections
Where a law, a general practice, or a piece of context described here changes or turns out to be inaccurate, the right response is to update the relevant page, not to leave stale information live for the sake of consistency — this is a living guide to a living scene, not a fixed document.
